NFL Preview: Seattle Seahawks
2010 Record: 7-9
Offense:
The Seahawks lost Matt Hasselbeck this offseason and gained Tarvaris Jackson in his place. If that isn't a downgrade I don't know what is. Their RBs aren't that bad with Lynch and Forsett, but with a bad offensive line I don't see this offense being able to move the ball. Signing Sidney Rice was a nice move, I think him, Zach Miller, and a resurgent Mike Williams is a really nice group to build around, but with Jackson/Whitehurst throwing the ball around it won't really matter. It jut amazes me that they are willing to go into this season with those QBs.
Defense:
Having Red Bryant and Colin Cole on the defensive line helps the Seahawks stop the run. Both guys are over 325 pounds, and when they were both on the field early last season they held opposing offenses 74 rushing yards or fewer. The problem is Bryant is coming off a torn MCL, and you have to wonder if he will be the same. Brandon Mebane and Chris Clemons should add a nice pass rush for Seattle. Clemons was a bust with Philly, but in 2010 he had 12 sacks. This defensive line is going to need to be good, because Seattle is terrible against the pass. Last year they ranked 26th against the pass, and the team really did nothing to upgrade their unit. Free Safety Earl Thomas is going to need to come in and play strong, but it is asking a lot for a rookie to come in and really improve this defensive backfield. You have to remember that Seattle lost Lofa Tatupu, and although David Hawthorne will take up his spot his leadership and overall skilled will be felt.
Overall:
I hate this team, I really do. I hate what they have done other then their WRs/TEs, I hate Pete Carroll, and I think they are going to be one of the worst teams in the NFL.
