Rey Misterio

Óscar Gutiérrez (born December 11, 1974) is an Mexican American professional wrestler best known by his ring name Rey Mysterio. He is currently signed to WWE where he performs on the Raw brand. Gutiérrez was trained by his uncle Rey Mysterio and wrestled early on in Mexico where he learned the Lucha Libre high flying style that has been his trademark.Gutiérrez originally worked for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) in Mexico, from 1992 to 1995. He wrestled in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) from 1995 to 1996 and World Championship Wrestling (WCW) from 1996 to 2001, as Rey Misterio, Jr./Rey Mysterio, Jr. but dropped the "Junior" from his name when he began working for WWE in 2002.Mysterio is known for having a high flying style, which helped kick-start the cruiserweight wrestling revolution in the United States in the late 1990s during his time in WCW. In WCW, Mysterio won the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship five times, the WCW World Tag Team Championship three times, and the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship once with Billy Kidman as part of the Filthy Animals. In WWE, Mysterio is a three time world champion having held the World Heavyweight Championship twice and the WWE Championship once. He has also held the WWE World Cruiserweight Championship three times (a record eight times overall when added with his WCW reigns), the WWE Tag Team Championship four times (also a record—shared with two others), and the WWE Intercontinental Championship twice, making him the 21st person to win the Triple Crown Championship. Mysterio was also the winner of the 2006 Royal Rumble.Mysterio fought Cody Rhodes in a winning effort by hitting the 619 with the exposed knee brace in the January 21 edition of SmackDown, thus sparking a feud. This resulted in Rhodes nose being broken and hence he couldn't compete in the Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble (2011). Mysterio participated in the match, entering at number 29, though he was eliminated by Wade Barrett after lasting 19 minutes and 7 seconds. The match would later be won by his rival, Alberto Del Rio who entered at the number 38. Five days later on SmackDown, Mysterio qualified for a spot in the Elimination Chamber match at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view for the World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Jack Swagger. At the event he made it to the final two but was finally eliminated after getting speared from Edge.On the February 25 edition of SmackDown after defeating Kane, Mysterio was attacked from behind by Cody Rhodes after being tricked by his father, Dusty Rhodes, who fooled him into a fake handshake. Rhodes unmasked Mysterio at the end of his attack, though he covered his face so that neither the crowd nor the television cameras could see his face. On the March 11 edition of SmackDown, Mysterio accepted Rhodes' challenge to a match at WrestleMania XXVII. At WrestleMania XXVII, Mysterio was defeated by Rhodes. On the April 15, edition of Smackdown, Mysterio defeated Drew McIntyre, later that night he participated in a 20 man battle royal to determine who would face Alberto Del Rio for Edge's vacated World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules. He survived to the final three before being eliminated by Jack Swagger after Mysterio accidentally struck Michael Cole with the 619 when Mysterio was going for Swagger, the battle royal was won by Edge's real life friend Christian. On the April 23, edition of Smackdown Mysterio defeated Cody Rhodes in a Wrestlemania XXVII rewind match. After the match they brawled each other outside of the ring with Rhodes getting the upper hand.In the 2011 WWE Draft, Mysterio was drafted to Raw. On the May 9 edition of Raw, Mysterio lost a Triple Threat match to determine the number one contender for the WWE Championship. Following the match, Mysterio was attacked by R-Truth which led to a match between the two at Over the Limit, which R-Truth won. On the May 23 edition of Raw, Mysterio teamed up with John Cena against CM Punk and R-Truth while the special guest referee was Bret Hart. Hart executed the sharpshooter on Punk then Mysterio hit a slingshot leg drop to the back of Punk's head and won the match. Punk gained retribution by defeating Mysterio in a singles match on the May 30 edition of Raw. Mysterio then defeated CM Punk in a rematch on the June 6 edition of Raw.Mysterio went on to face Punk at WWE Capitol Punishment in a losing effort. On a special edition of RAW called Power to the People on June 20, Mysterio faced CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio in a triple threat match to determine the number one contender for the WWE Championship in the Money In The Bank pay-per view. Cm Punk would win the match, but after being suspended indefinitely, Rey Mysterio got a second chance in another triple threat match determine the number one contender for the WWE Championship which involved Alberto Del Rio and R-Truth but lost again to Alberto Del Rio. Rey Mysterio failed to capture the Raw Money In The Bank briefcase, eventually the match was won by Alberto Del Rio by unmasking Mysterio as a distraction. Mysterio advanced to the finals of a one night tournament on the July 18 edition of Raw, which culminated into a match between The Miz and Mysterio for the WWE Championship. The following week, Mysterio defeated Miz to win his first ever WWE Championship, nine years to the day of his WWE debut, also becoming a three time World Champion. After the match Rey's old nemesis Alberto Del Rio tried once again to cash his Money in the Bank contract but this time against Mysterio, but would retreat when Mysterio attacked him over the top rope. However later that night the Champion had to defend his title against John Cena, who subsequently defeated him to become WWE Champion.

Mysterio and his wife Angie have two children, a son, Dominik, born 1997, and a daughter, Aaliyah, born 2001.In an interview with The Miami Herald in January 2009, Mysterio revealed that he and his wife were expecting their third child.He has tattoos of his two children's names on his right and left biceps. He also has tattoos dedicated to his wife, Angie.
