Fuck It, Trade For Jose Reyes

I'm reading it would take Jose Inglesis, Felix Doubront, Josh Reddick and Ryan Lavarnway (Sox catcher of the future) for a deal involving Jose Reyes. None of those guys I'm sold on. And even if we can trade for him in hopes that we re sign him in the offseason you do it.

The pessimists would say, he'd leave in the offseason to free agency, we would have to pay another 100+ million dollar deal, he's injury prone, we would have 3 leadoff hitters (Ellsbury and Crawford would be the other 2) blah, blah, blah, if there is a chance you could get arguably the best SS in the league you jump at it.

I don't care if all of those guys turn into future all-stars, winning a title this year is worth it 100 percent. I know this could be a pipe dream, but if this is what it takes takes, Theo push the button.

Fred Wilpon Has Something To Say

So the Mets owner Fred Wilpon had some things to say about some of the players he has right now, mainly Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and David Wright, here they are:

• Shortstop Jose Reyes will not be getting a super-huge contract from the Mets. "He thinks he's going to get Carl Crawford money," Wilpon said, referring to Crawford's seven-year, $142 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. "He's had everything wrong with him. He won't get it."

• On right fielder Carlos Beltran, Wilpon refers to Beltran's huge postseason with the Houston Astros in 2004 and says: "We had some schmuck in New York who paid him based on that one series. He's sixty-five to seventy percent of what he was."

• About David Wright: "Really good kid. A very good player. Not a superstar."

• On whether the franchise might be snakebit, Wilpon makes another pointed Beltran reference. Author Jeffrey Toobin writes: "At one point, I mentioned to Wilpon the theory that the Mets might be cursed. He gave a sort of half laugh, and said, 'You mean' -- and then pantomimed a checked swing of the bat. Any Mets fan (I am one) would understand the reference. The Mets took the 2006 National League Championship Series to a seventh game against the Cardinals."

Wilpon apparently does like first baseman Ike Davis. "Good hitter," Wilpon says. "[Word for poop] team. Good hitter. ...We're snakebitten, baby."

Well.... this certainly isn't going to get our players to play harder for you. Figuring the Mets are getting sued for a billion dollars because they had a hand in the Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme, I would try to deflect my hate talk of his own team and make it more about building for a great future. This is one of the most unprofessional things I have ever heard and if I were Jose Reyes, Calros Beltran and David Wright I would be strongly asking for a trade. It's bad enough that soon your job won't be able to pay you, but for your boss to be bad mouthing you on top of it is just a toxic work environment.

Sox To Go After Jose Reyes?

Boston Red Sox -- The Red Sox could be a good fit, if they’re willing to sign another Carl Crawford-type deal, which they might not want to after the start he’s had. A package that included shortstop Jose Iglesias and former LSU stud Anthony Ranaudo would be a good starting point to a potential package.

If I were to give up Inglesias and Ranaudo, I'm getting a pitcher in return. Jose Reyes would look good in that SS position, however, the Sox aren't going to be handing out another 130 million dollar contract for another slap hitter, speed guy.

Also, I want to see Inglesias in a Sox uniform, they say he's Ozzie Smith like in the field and his offense is coming around, so I can't wait to see him out there. Also, Ranaudo is going to turn into the steal of this years draft, he's huge and has been killing it in the minors.

If we were talking Felix here it wouldn't be a question, but for Reyes, I'd rather keep them.
